FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions ~ Carpet and Furniture Cleaning

Q. May I have a Price Quote?
A. Absolutely. We offer free carpet and tile cleaning assessments.

Q. Why should I have my carpets cleaned?
A. Not only does it make your home look nicer to have clean carpet, but it is essential to a healthy home. You see, your carpet works as a filter sucking in all the pollutants, pollen, bacteria, germs, dander and dustmites, to name only a few. The key is to have your carpets cleaned before they begin showing dirt. The longer you wait to clean your carpet, the more soil becomes permanent. It locks onto the fibers thru a process called 'oxidation', and the soil bonds with the carpet permanently attaching to it. If you wait  too long you're throwing away the key to unlocking dirt in traffic lanes.

Q. How often should I have my carpet cleaned?
A. Before they begin to show visible dirt. At a minimum, we recommend every six months. Why? Well looks aren't everything!  Modern carpeting is a technological marvel. It was designed to hide dirt and boy does it do a good job. You can literally pour a pound of potting soil in one square foot of a quality nylon carpet, rub it in, and it will disappear! That means all of the junk (dander, fumes, pollens, germs, bacteria, fleas, etc) that comes into your home is safely hidden in your carpet.

Q. How often should I have my furniture cleaned?
A. Once again, before it begins to show the dirt. We recommend a minimum of once a year.

Q. Which method of carpet cleaning is best?
A. Steam cleaning is the best carpet cleaning method, due providing the best capability for deep cleaning, as recommended by the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, Shaw Industries. It does not harm carpet fibers, does not encourage re-soiling and actually improves indoor air quality. Our truck-mounts heat the water to 220 degrees farenheit, which is very important considering that super heating water is the only proven method to kill all the contaminants.

Q. Do you use truck mounted equipment?
A. Yes.  51-horse powered cleaning equipment that removes 98% of all moisture put down.

Q. Should I vacuum before the carpet cleaner arrives?
A. You can never vacuum too much, but depending on the package you choose, vacuuming may be included.

Q. Do you move furniture?
A. We can do just traffic lanes or move your furniture. We will move any cleared off furniture (cleared tables, empty dressers, etc).

Q. Should I move anything?
A. Although we do our absolute best to respect your home (using corner guards, door guards, shoe covers, entry rug, etc) accidents happen. We ask that you move all breakables while we clean.

Q. How long will it take for my carpet or furniture to dry?
A. On average 1-4 hours, possibly longer if weather is humid. We do use fans to help speed up drying if needed.

Q. How long before I can walk on my carpet?
A. We will furnish you with shoe covers, allowing you to walk  on your carpet immediately.

Q. Are the products you use safe?
A. Yes. The products we use are organic, green chemicals.

Q. Are your technicians experienced?
A. At Atlas Carpet Cleaning, we have only well trained technicians that wear uniforms, do not smoke, and have been through extensive training on how to use our superior equipment and provide you with "The Most Thorough Cleaning Ever Seen".

Q. Will your services help my allergies?
A. Yes. 90% of our time is spent indoors. We can help keep the indoor qir quality of your home as clean as possible. How? By removing ALL the soil, dust mites, pollens, bacteria and other pollutants trapped.

Q. Does cleaning your carpet make it wear out faster?
A. No, makes it last longer. Dirt, sand and grit make your carpet wear out faster. What would happen if you rubbed sand paper all over your new paint job? What a disaster! Well, each day we pull pounds of gritty soil out of our clients carpets. It's in yours too! This soil goes to work on your fibers like a bunch of tiny saws. In Fact, This Is the #! Cause of Your Carpet's Ugly, Faded and Worn Appearance.

Q. Should I have a fabric protector applied after cleaning?
A. This is optional, but highly recommended. Protectant is applied at the factory, but when your carpets are cleaned it removes 15-30%. Fabric protectant (teflon/Scotchgard) seals your carpet to protect it from stains, mess and normal wear. This ensures your carpet will last longer, hold its color better, and require cleaning less often.

Q. Which is better for indoor air quality: hardwood, or carpet?
A. Wood flooring is beautiful, but doesn't act as a filter like your carpet does. If you have your carpets cleaned regularly, it will actually help your air to be cleaner.  But just like a garbage, it needs to be emptied. If you can see soil, it means it's overflowing.ht m

Q. What kind of stains can you remove?
A. Grease, soda spills, candy and blood, will actually come out with our cleaning process in most cases. We are able pull most dye type stains (such as Kool-aid) with heat transfers and can also spot dye bleach stains. It is rare that we cannot remove a stain, but some stains are permanent, such as furniture stains. In this case, an option would be to have us patch the permanently stained area.

Q. What kind of carpet repairs can you do?
A. Many clients are surprised to find that we can actually save them money by doing many carpet repairs such as carpet stretching, patching, seam repairs, tackstrip and beauty bar installation.

Q. What kind of carpet odor can you treat?
A. We can treat most carpet odors. The most popular odors we treat are pet and smoke odors, although we offer various odor treatment options that will actually help with most funky odors. We are actually certified with IICRC in odor removal! ile floor was maintenance free

Frequently Asked Questions ~ Tile & Grout Cleaning & Sealing
nQ: I thought my tile floor was maintenance free?
Q: I thought my tile floor was maintenance free?
A: Unfortunately this is not true. Your tile will never need to be replaced due to excessive wear, unlike other floor coverings that are in your home, but proper maintenance is necessary. Most tile surfaces are not completely flat. They have pores, which will collect and trap dirt.

Q: Why did the original color of my grout lines turn darker?
A: Unfortunately, most new tile installers, never take the time to return and seal the grout lines. Grout is a cement based material that is extremely porous. When cleaned improperly, dirt and liquids stay trapped within the pores and stain the grout. This tends to make the grout color look spotty and dark.

Q: Why should I have my tile and grout professionally cleaned?
A: . Our proper professional cleaning will remove 95% of the dirt, and restore your floor to "like new" condition. The equipment and chemicals we use, are specifically designed for tile surfaces. The use of Acidic & Alkaline chemicals, along with HOT pressurized water, will effectively restore your tile and grout, to its original beauty.

Q: Why should my Grout lines be sealed?
A: Applying sealer to the grout lines after cleaning, will form a barrier of protection towards future soiling. The sealer is designed to fill the pores of the grout. This will allow the you time to clean-up spills, before they penetrate and stain the grout. Unfortunately, sealer does lose it's effectiveness to protect the staining of the grout. Depending on the frequency of cleanings, sealer may need to be re-applied.

Q. What is Grout Etching?
A. Grout etching is a process where highly acidic substances, such as orange juice, coffee, vinegar, wine, tomato-based products, mustard and many soft drinks will leave an “etch,” a chemical reaction that may leave a dull area or mark. Properly sealing the grout will give you time to wipe up a spill to avoid staining, but it cannot prevent etching. collect and trap dirt.

Frequently Asked Questions ~ Air Duct Cleaning

Q: Why should air ducts be cleaned?
A: Indoor air can be even more polluted than outdoor air. Most disposable filters only remove about 10% of these pollutants and the rest, remain in your home. Air duct cleaning can help you breathe easier, have a cleaner and more sanitary home, help save money on your power bill, and help during allergy season.

Q: How often should I have my air ducts cleaned?
A: Approximately every 3-7 years, if properly maintained and an electro-static air filter is installed.

Q: What is an electro-static filter?
A: . An electro-static filter is a filter that cleans the air by using static electricity. An electrostatic charge is generated by air flowing through a maze of static prone fibers. Airborne particles are attracted and held by the static charge until released by washing. Not only are these filters much more efficient, but they never have to be replaced. You simply hose them off!

Q. Besides having my air ducts cleaned, what can I do to help my system run at it's best?
A. We highly recommend purchasing an electro-static filter. You will save in the long run. If you cannot buy an electro-static filter, we highly recommend disposable filters are changed every month.
